Work related injuries

Condition:

The most common work related injury for people who are active computer users is carpal tunnel. ‘Carpal tunnel’ is the inflammation of tendons and pinching of the Median nerve that runs through the wrist supplying muscles of the thumb and sensation of nearby two fingers. Pain described as tingling or numb in the hand occurs.

Treatment:

Conservative treatment includes improving the ergonomics of workstations like adjusting the keyboard angle to slope downhill to keep the wrists straight. Adding a wrist pad to the mouse and keyboard will help keep a neutral straight wrist to alleviate symptoms. Wearing a night splint to keep the wrist straight and hand open will reduce inflammation and resultant pain.
